Essentials by Ellen: Mix and Match Stamping with the Backyard Birds Stamp Set

Hi Friends and welcome to Pops of Paper! I don’t know about you but I am soooo ready for spring…the warmer weather, all the pretty flowers, the birds singing in the backyard and finally less brown and more bright colors…did I already mention the warmer weather?!

As I was looking through my Essentials by Ellen Stamps I found the Backyard Birds stamp set by Brandi Kincaid and thought it was the perfect cure for my Winter Springtime Wishes. I was immediately drawn to the hummingbird image and wanted it to be the focal point on my card.

When I’m cardmaking, I enjoy mixing and matching my stamps. Finding an unexpected way to use a stamp in my collection is on of the best parts of my creative process. I love it when the images come together as if they were always meant to be. So of course the perfect match would be the Mondo Amaryllis byJulie Ebersole Stamp Set with the Humming Bird Image…talk about stretching a holiday stamp.

To create my first card, I started with a white square base. I stamped the Amaryllis twice along the right corner and side of the square. Then I used yellow and orange Copics to create a sweet flower that the hummingbird would enjoy. I stamped hummingbird and added a little Aqua and then fussy cut. I adhered the hummingbird to the flower with some foam adhesive. And then I thought the wings of the hummingbird would be waving hello and found the perfect sentiment in the High Five Stamp Set—”Just Waving Hello”—and stamped it in the bottom left corner with VersaFine Clair Nocturne Ink. For a little extra pop of color, I layered a Mint distress oxide ink square panel (Peacock Feathers and Cracked Pistachio) behind the stamped panel with a layer of Essentials by Ellen Woodgrain Embossed Cardstock.

I have a hard time stopping with only one card, so I created a second using the same square layers but created a smaller 4 x 4 card with the Spring Robin Image. I stamped the branches to a white card panel and colored with my Copics. Then I stamped, colored and fussy cut the Robin. While almost placing the Robin on the branch with foam squares, I realized the card needed a little something more so I stamped the yellow pattern from Pattern Play by Brandi with Shea Butter Catherine Pooler Ink then I added the Robin to the branch. For a little extra pop, I added some yellow and orange gems to the bottom branch and although it’s hard to see I also added little pops of orange to the center of all the flowers using Orange Marmalade Nuvo Jewel Drops.

So there we are friends. Two “Wishing it Was Spring” cards using the Backyard Birds stamp set and a few other unexpected mix and match stamps. I hope you enjoyed my post today and it inspires you to mix and match and stretch your Stamps in fun new ways!

Waffle Flower New Release Blog Hop with Ellen Hutson

Hi Crafty Friends and Welcome to Pops of Paper! I hope you’re enjoying the Ellen Hutson Waffle Flower Celebration Blog Hop! You can find all the hop giveaway details and links for the entire hop at the end of this post.

Oh, my sweetness! I just love this adorable Spring/Easter bunny and the florals are so pretty. Today, I have two cards using the Rejoice Rabbit Stamp and Die Combo

For my first card, I used the full rabbit image for the focal point of my card. I colored the rabbit and florals with Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers (list of colors are in the product listing below) and then die cut the image. For the background, I added a light dusting of Spun Sugar Distress Oxide Ink with a blending brush to white cardstock. Then I added a strip of my favorite Gold Foil Hai Washi Tape to the background to create a clean and simple layered look with the sweet bunny image. To complete the card, I stamped the “Somebunny Loves You” with white embossing powder to pink cardstock and then die cut the sentiment with the coordinating die. I really loved having the die cut for the sentiments for different layout options.

For my second card, I did a tiny bit of masking to create two floral boughs. I colored the floral images with Zigs and added in some white gel pen for extra dimension. The floral boughs were a perfect fit on a stitched rectangle inlay die cut. I also blended Spun Sugar to the rectangle background for a little extra pop. The sentiment was heat embossed with gold embossing powder on white card stock.

I loved the versatility of this stamp set. While it looks like one image full of adorable sweetness, it really is a versatile stamp set when you create pretty floral standalone designs.

I hope you enjoyed my cards today and it inspires you to stretch your stamp sets in fun ways. Have a great time seeing all the great inspiration on the hop!!
